What Standard Tags Does Differently
Standard Tags is designed from the ground up to work no matter what the status of the BarbershopTags.com database is. The first thing the app will do when launched is create a full backup of the database. Don't worry. This is less than 10mb! Once that is complete, all searching is done entirely locally and the only time the online database is used is when viewing a new tag to get the sheet music or when listening to learning tracks. Additionally, once you have viewed a tag, the sheet music is cached locally allowing you to view the tag again even when offline.
Standard Tags is not the first app to do offline caching of tags, but I've taken the app a step further because Tag singing is not a solo affair! Standard Tags allows unlimited Custom Lists for you to save and organize your favorite tags. You can then upload one of those lists to the Standard Tags database as a Curated List for all Standard Tags users to see! Standard Tags also has created a way to share a Tag entirely locally so that you don't have to wait for your friends to download the sheet music ever again. Just Share the tag from Standard Tags and have your friends open the shared file. It will take them directly to the Tag with sheet music ready to go; all without talking to the online database.
The app also has a subscription feature. I know, I know.. everything's a subscription these days. It's entirely optional. Subscribing grants your account access to Standard Tags' cloud features where you can backup and sync your favorites and lists across multiple devices. We also keep an up-to-date copy of all the tag sheet music on the cloud side. If you're a subscriber and BarbershopTags.com takes too long to respond, the app will automatically grab the sheet music from the backup and keep you singing. While we wish we could make these features free, the cloud costs to keep running. We set the subscription pricing at the lowest possible amount to cover the average usage.
Standard Tags has more features planned in the future and if there are ideas you have or bugs you run into, please let me know using the Contact link below or by going to About in the app and tapping on the Report Issue button.
